Diamond is the hardest gemstone known to man and the simplest in composition: pure carbon. Diamond has a melting point of approximately 4,000 degrees centigrade; two and a half times greater than the melting point of steel.
Carat
The weight of a diamond is expressed in carats, with a 1 carat Diamond divided into 100 points. A Diamond of 25 points is described as a quarter of a carat or 0.25 carats.
Cut
Diamonds are cut for the sole purpose of making them sparkle. The "cut" or "make" of a Diamond is the proportion quality which is unique to each stone, and which dramatically influences its fire and sparkle. The better the quality of the cut, the greater the brilliance and fire and the greater the value.
